The Tactical Assault Kit is the official Department of Defense designation for the Team Awareness Kit (TAK) application. It serves as a comprehensive tool for mission planning, geospatial analysis, Full Motion Video (FMV) viewing, and system administration. This advanced software solution allows for a significant reduction in operational equipment by transitioning from a traditional tactical laptop to a streamlined commercial mobile device.
The geospatial engine and communication components of the Tactical Assault Kit adhere to both Department of Defense (DoD) and industry standards. The core platform's extensibility is facilitated through the Software Development Kit available at tak.gov. This SDK empowers partners to develop mission-specific capabilities or contribute to enhancing the baseline structure. Users can pre-load data into ATAK or access it through network downloads.
The civilian applications of ATAK-CIV are diverse:

 <li>Ability to handle very high-resolution imagery with sub-1 cm resolution</li>

 <li>Diverse navigation options for walking, hiking, driving as well as aerial coordination</li>
 <li>Elevation tools, heat maps, computed contour maps, viewsheds, routes with DTED and SRTM data including dynamic profiling capabilities</li>
 <li>Hashtags and Sticky tags support</li>
 <li>Various measurement tools including range, bearing, and more</li>
 <li>Network-aware geofences with triggers functionality</li>
 <li>"Bloodhound" destination tracking even on moving objects</li>
 <li>Team Emergency Beacons for critical situations</li>
 <li>Customizable Toolbar and radio controls integration</li>
 <li>Photo to map capability known as Rubber Sheeting</li>
 <li>Casualty evacuation tool and icon support for First Responder missions</li>
